You can add children to the growing list of groups less important to Gov. Sam Brownback than his tax breaks for billionaires and big business. That's because as part of his efforts to save the cratering Kansas budget, Gov. Brownback has proposed taking $9.5 million from an endowment fund set up to pay for early-childhood programs and transfer it to the state's all-purpose general fund to help balance his underwater budget.

Gov. Sam Brownback’s reckless tax breaks for billionaires and big business have put Kansas universities on the chopping block.

If Brownback really cared about higher education funding and the future of Kansas students he would never have signed the worst tax bill in America that asks working Kansans to support the richest Kansans.

President Obama cancels University of Kansas visit

In light of the tragedy at the Boston Marathon, this afternoon the White House announced that President Barack Obama's April 19 event at the University of Kansas has been canceled.

"First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of yesterday's senseless tragedy," Joan Wagnon, Kansas Democratic Party Chair said. "While the President is always welcome in Kansas, we understand that his leadership is needed in Boston during this time of healing."
