The Economy Should Work for Working Families
Kansas Democrats believe our first priority must be to make sure the economy grows and benefits working families. It is getting increasingly difficult to achieve the American Dream, and it is time to help families that work hard and play by the rules. Instead of giving tax breaks to wealthy corporations, Kansas Democrats believe:
- We must give small businesses a fair playing field so they can have an honest chance to compete.
- Job training must be improved so that expanding businesses will have a ready work force.
- Prudent investments in necessities like roads and schools will attract more businesses to Kansas.
Kansas Democrats have proposed a 14-point job plan that makes working families the top priority. This fiscally responsible approach could add as much as $9.7 million over three years to the state’s general fund without raising taxes. The Kansas Democratic plan has already prompted the Kansas Department of Transportation to speed up the start of highway projects to bring jobs to every corner of the state. The plan would also stop jobs from being exported out of state, protect unemployed workers from job discrimination, strengthen work training and post-secondary and technical education.
Even though our economy is recovering, more than 50,000 Kansas workers are still without a job.
The Kansas Department of Transportation announced on Jan. 27, 2012, that it was accelerating the start of the new projects at the suggestion of Kansas Democrats. Get the Details.
