More than 37,000 Kansans participated in the 2008 Kansas Democratic Presidential Preference Caucuses on February 5, 2008. Caucuses across the state elected delegates to Congressional District Conventions to be held on April 12, 2008.

The delegates elected at caucus locations met on April 12, 2008 for the Congressional District Conventions. The delegates for each candidate elected 21 District Level Delegates and 4 Alternates to represent Kansas at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

The Kansas Democratic State Committee will meet on May 17, 2008 to elect Party Leader and Elected Official (PLEO) delegates and at-large delegates to the Democratic National Convention. Candidates for PLEO and at-large delegates must file by May 2, 2008.

The Democratic National Convention will be held in Denver, Colorado from August 24th to August 28th, 2008. At the convention, delegates from across the country will gather to nominate the 2008 Democratic Presidential candidate.

The State Convention is May 17th. In order to run for At-Large or Party Leader/Elected Official Delegate positions, you must file a statement of candidacy with the Kansas Democratic Party. The statement of candidacy must be hand delivered or postmarked by 5:00 pm on May 2, 2008. The presidential campaigns have an opportunity to review the list of individuals who have filed to run for delegate pledged to them. Presidential candidates may approve a certain number of delegate candidates in order to ensure they are bona fide supporters.
Obtain a list of state committee members and campaign for their vote at the state convention. Voting will be done by the State Committee of the Kansas Democratic Party and lists are available from the State Party.

The Kansas State Democratic Committee has written a comprehensive Delegate Selection Plan to determine who will represent Kansas in the Democratic National Convention and cast Kansas’ votes for the 2008 Democratic Presidential candidate.
The Delegate Selection Plan underwent months of public comment before being approved by the Kansas Democratic Party Executive Committee and the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee.
