Jeff Boone becomes first official candidate to file for 82nd District house seat

Derby resident files for place on August primary ballot Derby, KS, January 30, 2006: Derby resident Jeff Boone formally announced his candidacy today for the Democratic nomination for State Representative. He is seeking election to the District 82 seat, which includes the city of Derby and parts to the north and west. Jeff, 29, works in a three-generation insulating and window tinting company, NorthStar Comfort Services, Inc., which was known as Wichita Insulation and Window Works until early 2003. He is a member of the Derby Chamber of Commerce, Wichita Area Builders Association, serving on both the Legislative Committee and Remodelors Council, and various other business associations. Additionally, he has spent the past 2 falls as an assistant football coach at Wichita Collegiate School. Born at Riverside Hospital, Jeff has lived in Sedgwick County for most of his life. After he and his wife, Shannon, were engaged, they chose Derby as the place to start their family. They have two children - Tanner, 10, and Alexandra, 1. He cites them as the real reason for running. â??I am deeply concerned about the direction, or lack thereof, that our current legislators show. They donâ??t seem willing or able to confront the real issues that we face and want to simply pass them on to our children.â? Like many candidates around the state, Jeff was a moderate Republican until, due to increasing frustration with the Republican Party line, he became a Democrat in 2004. He then entered politics as a Precinct Committeeman that fall. â??I was registered as a Republican because I thought that was what I was â?? a moderate Republican. As time passed, I realized that the rift between moderates and conservatives wasnâ??t going to go away and the conservatives were going to be the ones to keep setting the tone. Besides, shouldnâ??t we be placing more value on the actual candidates rather than their parties?â? As a candidate, Jeff wants to work on governmental reform, strengthening our schools and economy, and move Kansas to the forefront of renewable energy. Of particular concern to him is the influence money has on our government. â??Itâ??s amazing how little our government seems to be working for us. You have representatives on the tourism committee taking money from gaming interests, representatives on the utilities committee taking money from utility companies. If that doesnâ??t say, â??Conflict of Interestsâ?, I donâ??t know what does. It may be legal but is it ethical? And how much longer are we going to take it?â?
