"This study group features successful women involved in various aspects of politics, elected and unelected, who talk about their careers and their lives," Senior Fellow Jennifer Schmidt said.  "This sharing of wisdom is an invaluable gift that will, hopefully, help create the next generation of leaders.  I appreciate Senator Kelly joining this distinguished panel and sharing her story, her insight, and her knowledge with us.''

Panelists discussed issues relevant to being a female legislator, including their political careers, balancing home and work life, and how more women can become involved in Kansas politics.  Students and members of the community also had an opportunity to ask questions and receive feedback from the featured speakers.  

"As a mother of two daughters, I know how important it is for young women today to have role models in their career field in which to seek advice," said Senator Kelly.  "I was honored to participate in the discussion, and hope that by sharing my experiences I have encouraged more women to become politically active and to run for office." 

Featured speakers also included former U.S. Senator Sheila Frahm, and Representative Barbara Ballard, D-Lawrence.

Senator Kelly serves as Ranking Minority Member of the Senate Ways and Means Committee.  She is also a member of the Senate Commerce Committee and the Joint  committees on Economic Development; Health Policy Oversight; Legislative Budget; Pensions, Investments and Benefits; and State Building Construction.  She serves the 18^th Senate District covering Wabaunsee County and northern Shawnee County.
