Carolyn Weinhold
Candidate for Kansas Senate - District 20
About
Carolyn Weinhold is a former representative from the 69th district in Salina. During her term she spearheaded legislation to ban smoking in all family child care homes. After a long fight the legislation finally passed. Up until that time, young children were subjected to second hand smoke in many child care homes.Carolyn was and is pro public schools. She taught in Clay Center, Eudora and Salina at the middle school and college level. She understands the importance of a manageable class size and competitive salaries.
Having served on the Energy and Natural Resources committee, Carolyn is ready to work for clean air and water while understanding the importance of attracting good paying jobs to Kansas. Collaborating and compromising are more than words and she is ready to work with all legislators and state leaders to find the best solution to difficult environmental problems.
Early childhood education is one of Carolyn’s prime interests. She knows that 80% of a child’s brain development occurs in the first five years of a child’s life, therefore we must be ready to invest in those important years.
Health care reform is high priority to Carolyn. She has been assisting her husband, Frank, in navigating the complicated health care system for her 95 year old mother-in-law. Although many changes must come from the Federal government, there are still steps that Kansas can take to make health care more affordable, accessible and simpler to understand.
Carolyn grew up in a blue collar family, worked her way through college and understands the needs and concerns of average Kansas families.
