About
I began my career in law enforcement in 1992, where I have served for over ten years in a variety of positions, including duties as a police officer and juvenile corrections official. Currently, I work as an instructor at Butler County Community College teaching administration of justice courses and at the Kansas School for Effective Learning (KANSEL), a non-profit organization dedicated to helping non-traditional students reach their full potential. I have also served as a Chief Union Stewart for the Kansas Association of Public Employees (KAPE) WSU Police Department bargaining unit.
Education
I have a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Wichita State University, with certificates in Forensic Criminology and Law Enforcement. I have also completed graduate studies in Public Administration and Management. Additionally, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Butler, receiving an Associates of Arts in Police Science.
I am a graduate of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center and was honored as the first woman ever awarded the Top Firearms Marksmanship Award. I have also completed the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department Reserve Academy and was fully commissioned as a Reserve Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Deputy.
Kansas Background
I was born in Topeka, Kansas. My father, Vincent Perez served honorably in the Vietnam War and is a retired disabled veteran of the United States Air Force. I am proud that my maternal grandparents were Ed and Lois Zarda of the Zarda Dairy in Kansas City. I graduated from Southeast High School in Wichita.
In 2005, I married US Air Force Major Justin Trumbo, a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and University of Texas School of Law. Justin is a Senior Staff Judge Advocate General (JAG) for the U.S. Air Force. He recently returned from serving in Afghanistan where he was in charge of contracts and fiscal Law.
