Rep. Robert “Bob” Grant was first appointed to the Kansas House of Representatives in 1991 then elected to the position in 1992. He represents the 2nd House District, which includes portions of Bourbon, Cherokee, and Crawford Counties.
Bob and his wife of 41 years, Lynn, reside in Cherokee. They have one daughter, Megan, her husband, Kevin, and two grandchildren, Ross and Katie Fry. Within the community, Bob served as the mayor of Cherokee for 16 years and was active in youth activities through Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. He has been involved actively with the American Legion, West Mineral Eagles and Pittsburg Elks Lodge #412. Currently he serves as secretary/treasurer of the Cherokee Gun Club. Bob worked as an equipment operator for 10 years, a foreman estimator for 13 years, and a small business owner for 20 years
Throughout his 17 years in the Kansas Legislature, Bob has demonstrated unwavering commitment to working families and the people of Southeast Kansas.
He has been actively involved in the statewide effort to adequately fund
K-12 education and is a staunch supporter of the expansion of Highway 69.
Since helping to pass legislation for expanded gaming, he has worked diligently in the attempt to put gaming in operation as a source of revenue for Southeast Kansas.
Bob serves as the Ranking Democrat on the House Financial Institutions Committee. He is also a member of the House committees on Commerce and Labor, Fed & State Affairs and Insurance. Additionally, Bob serves on the Joint Committee on Claims against the State and the Joint Committee on State Building Construction. He was chosen to be 1 of 6 to serve on the House Select Committee to examine ethics complaints against House Speaker Mike O'Neal.
