About
Rep. Jerry Williams has served in the Kansas House of Representatives since 2001. He represents the 8th House District, which includes all of Neosho, part of Crawford and the northwestern corner of Labette counties.
Jerry received both undergraduate and graduate degrees in education, as well as a Master of Science in Gerontology. His extensive educational background allowed Jerry to pursue a distinguished and diverse career. In addition to his work as a small business owner, Jerry also worked as a farmer and rancher, a schoolteacher, an elementary and junior high school principal, and a school superintendent. In addition, he spent over 30 years in the health care field as a hospital administrator and the Executive Director of the Southeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging.
Within the local community, Jerry served as a Chanute City Commissioner from 1986-1992 and a Neosho County Commissioner from 1992-1997. He has been active in the Chanute Chamber of Commerce and the Chanute Main Street Program. Jerry and his wife, Kathy, own a small farm west of Chanute in Big Greek Township. They have five grown children, eight grandchildren, and attend the Big Creek Methodist Church. Jerry and Kathy have lived in Southeast Kansas for over 40 years.
Through his tenure in the state legislature, Jerry has served on the House Appropriations Committee, Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, the Joint Committee on Economic Development, and served as the Ranking Democrat on the House Transportation and Public Safety Budget Committee. In addition, Jerry serves on the National Bio and Agro Defense Facility Task Force, which heads Kansas’ efforts to secure a $450 million federal research facility in Manhattan.
