About

Rep. Gene Rardin has served in the Kansas House of Representatives since 2007. He represents the 16th House District, which includes portions of Lenexa and Overland Park.

Gene is a lifelong resident of Johnson County and currently lives in Overland Park with his wife of 44 years, Juanita. They have two grown children and three granddaughters: Dakotah, Alyse, and Allison. Prior to his service in the House of Representatives, Gene's diverse professional background includeds time as a project engineer for Kansas City Power & Light, a telecommunications manager and a teacher. For the last 14 years, Rardin has owned his own Consulting and Training Business. He received two undergraduate degrees from the University of Kansas: one in education and another in electrical engineering. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Missouri in Kansas City.

Within the local community, Gene has been active in the Kansas City Repertory Theatre and also volunteered as a youth soccer coach and Club Scout officer. In addition, he has also volunteered as a science fair judge for 25 years for the Greater Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair.

Gene serves on the House committees on Economic Development and Tourism, Transportation and Taxation. In 2008, Rardin also served on the House Select Committee on Energy and Environment for the Future, which explored ways to increase energy investments and production in Kansas. He offers a thorough understanding of complicated issues surrounding energy policy. In addition to his work with Kansas energy policy, Rardin utilizes his experience as a public school teacher by serving on the Special Education Funding Task Force. This task force is studying the existing formula for funding special education and related services, including Medicaid and replacement state aid.
