About

Walt Kuykendall was born in Iola Kanas and grew up on a family farm.  He served his country for six years in the Navy during the Vietnam War.  He moved to Wichita in 1972, where he began his 31 years in law enforcement.  He received his BS Degree from Wichita State, and also studied there for his Masters in Administration of Justice.

Walt has a rich and diverse background in law enforcement.  He has served the Wichita Police Department for 29 years as a patrolman, master police officer, detective and Lieutenant.  He has led the Critical Incident Debriefing Team as well as directed the Officer Field Traning Program.  He has slso been the Chief of Police for Iola, KS and most recently served as Valley Center's Police Chief.

Walt is a community leader.  He has spent the last 27 years raising funds for the Kansas Special Olympics through the Law Enforcement Torch Run.  He has worked for 13 years as a volunteer with the Sedgwick County Zoo.  He is the President of the Great Plains Woodcarving Club and is active in the Wichita Retired Police Association. Walt is Sub-Teaching in the Maize and Wichita School Districts.

Walt is married to Cynthia Kuykendall.  They have three grown children and six grandchildren.
