Senator Barack Obama

Candidate Bio

Senator Obama

Remembering the values of empathy and service that his mother taught him, Barack became a community organizer with a church-based group in poor neighborhoods on Chicago's South Side.

In 2004, he became the third African American since Reconstruction to be elected to the U.S. Senate. Whether it's the poverty exposed by Katrina or the role of faith in our politics, Barack Obama continues to speak out on the issues that will define America in the 21st century.

But above all, he is most proud and grateful for his wife, Michelle, and his two daughters, Malia, 9, and Sasha, 6.

I support Senator Obama because in my opinion he has the greatest opportunity to unite our country behind compromisable common goals and will have the best chance at succeeding. Our country desperately needs a different direction after decades of the same old, stagnant, Washington politics. Obama's sound judgment, optimism, and leadership qualities will lead us in the most positive direction I am able to foresee.Benjamin Herron, Overland Park
I support Senator Obama because I get most hopeful about real changes when I hear him speak.Danny Hewett, Overland Park
I support Sen. Barack Obama because I believe he has the attitude and values that America needs to create great change in our society. Sen. Obama is aware of the needs of the working poor and plans to offer assistance with health insurance. He understands what war should not be the first response to foreign relations. Humanitarian aid is a way to create stability and peace. He is idealistic and hopeful about the future.Andrea Clark, Overland Park

I support Senator Obama because I think he is the only person running who understands the complex world we live in. He has lived a complex life, growing up in Indonesia, Hawaii, Bi-Racial, with family in Africa, worked for civil rights in Chicago, not to mention being raised by his grandparents the majority of his life. I feel he represents me and understands me.Chad Bennett, Manhattan

Obama has the strength of character, the intellect, and charisma we so desperately need to unite this country around positive goals and restore our damaged image throughout the world.Missy Taylor, Roeland Park

I feel Barack is the most honest and sincere candidate. He is also very intellegent and articulate. I believe Barack's leadership will include all the people, not just the privileged and the big money lobbiest. I know that he can bring a more bipartison approach to our government.Charles W. Neal, Olathe

I support Senator Obama because he offers real change. He is a candidate that can win the national election. He is a candidate that has shown that he is not going to continue the dirty politics that we have so often seen before. He is the candidate that means change, the change we so desperately in Kansas and in the United States. Even here in a "red state" we can show the rest of the country that Barack Obama is THE CANDIDATE to improve our lives and send the rest of the country in the right direction.Rae Sommerfeld, Wichita

I support Senator Obama because his politics are an extension of his way of living and being in the world. He's not cold and calculating, and he's not afraid to differ from popular Democrat views. I feel he can be both representative and a "trustee" of the people.Steven Neal, Edgerton
