A comprehensive energy plan for Kansas For Kansas to take the next step toward a clean energy future, we must have a clear picture of where we’d like to be. Highlighting Hospice Care
Here in Kansas, we value helping our neighbors, our families and our friends. It’s a common thread that binds us together and makes our state a great place to live, work and raise a family. This month, we’re taking a moment to thank those individuals who help families get through incredibly difficult times – the passing of a loved one.
Veterans’ Day Every Day This week we celebrate Veterans’ Day. On this day, each year, we pause to show our gratitude to those who have served this nation at home and abroad.
Health care reform Last month, we received some discouraging but not surprising news about health care coverage in our state. There are now more Kansans without health insurance than at any other time this decade.
Lessons in wellness from Rooks County
Last weekend, I had the privilege of attending the dedication of the new Rooks County Health Center in Plainville.

Promoting Kansas Worldwide
This week I have the honor to promote Kansas’ growing economy and our role in the global aerospace market at the Farnborough Air Show in England. For the third year in a row, Kansas has set a record in our exports totaling more than $10 billion.
Independence Day
As we gather with loved ones, neighbors and friends to celebrate our nation’s birthday, we are reminded of the soldiers who fight for our freedom. It is because of them, and the soldiers before them, that we are here to celebrate our Independence Day.
Weathering the Storm As reported earlier this week, Kansas has seen 172 tornados this year – more than any other state in the nation. This number is three times larger than our yearly average – and the year is only half over.
Tobacco is costing Kansas
Tobacco use is the most preventable cause of death and disease in Kansas. One thing all Kansans can agree on is that an effort to stop young Kansans from ever smoking is a worthwhile goal.
Memorial Day 2008 Monday, May 26th marks Memorial Day. It is a solemn day when we remember the courage and sacrifice of each man and woman who has given their life to further the liberty of all people in this country and throughout the nation.
