ICYMI: Who’s Really Benefiting from the Republican Tax Proposal?Hint: It’s not the average Kansan
TOPEKA –– House and Senate Republicans are deceiving Kansans over their proposed flat tax plan. GOP leaders are pushing a reckless tax experiment that would primarily benefit the very wealthiest, yet again looking out for their big business buddies at the expense of middle-class families.
As reported by the Kansas Reflector on January 23rd, The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP), a nonpartisan research organization, found that Republicans’ flat tax plan “would be especially lucrative for” - guess who - “the state’s wealthiest individual, billionaire Charles Koch.”
Under the flat tax plan, Koch’s tax savings would be around $875,000 per year.
Also as reported by the Kansas Reflector based on ITEP’s research, the Republicans’ flat tax proposal ensures that wealthy Kansans see the majority of benefits as 45% of income tax savings would go to the top 5% of wage earners.
Republicans’ flat tax plan shows who they really prioritize –– the ultra-wealthy. Instead, Democrats are focused on responsible tax cuts that actually benefit the middle class and working people.
